Mike Huckabee Fights on - The Politics of Face Time

Many individuals have been wondering why Mike Huckabee has not dropped out. With his losses in the potomac primaries, Mike Huckabee simply cannot win the nomination. The answer to why Mike Huckabee has not dropped out is simple: the politics of face time.

  • Huckabee is building the respect of many Americans, who admire underdogs and people who fight on. (However, if Huckabee goes too far with his race, he will upset many Republicans).
  • Huckabee is building his conservative credentials by pitting himself to the right of the less conservative John McCain. This could prove fruitful in 2012.
  • Huckabee is also helping build his name recognition, which will help his business (giving speeches). For example, Huckabee recently agreed to give a high profile speech in the Grand Cayman (Fox News, Washington Post, LA Times).
  • Huckabee is also doing a strong favor for John McCain (unless Huckabee pushes it too far). Consider the following from the New York Times:
If Mr. Huckabee were to withdraw from the race, the media coverage of Senator McCain's candidacy would shrivel as the cameras immediately turned their full attention to the Clinton-Obama brawl. Even though Senator McCain would travel to the remaining states on the primary calendar, few would spend much time watching his political shadow-boxing exhibition. But a series of contested primaries, even lopsided ones, would bring a much greater level of public interest in what he was saying and doing in each of these states before their votes took place.
