- Over the past 60 years, since the commonality of TV, the candidate who is shorter has only won four times (twice being George W. Bush). Although there are so many other factors and nobody consciously votes for the taller candidate, it does appear that height is associated with persuasiveness in presidential elections.
- In the 2004 election, George Bush was 5 inches shorter than his opponent John Kerry. I specifically remember hearing stories about the Kerry and Bush campaigns arguing about whether George Bush would be able to stand on a step behind the podium in the debates in order to conceal the height difference. (I cannot find the original article about this, some interesting comments in the following articles: Columbia.edu, New York Times).
